Title: Echo 1 Products G36C | views:172 | Coming Soon! A review of Echo 1 USA's G36 Model AEG. At $135.00, we just had to get our hands on one to try out and see if it lives up to the manufacturers' claims. Hopefully, it will make a decent addition to our loaner pool.
(Manufacturer Specs)
The G36C is the compact variant of the popular German G36 assault rifle. The combination of small size, power, and reliability makes this potent weapon a great choice for commandos and special forces units around the world. Of course, even though our replica still uses airsoft ammunition, our G36C follows this original concept faithfully.

Once the AEG arrived, it was immediately thrown into the armory and pressed into service with the rest of the WTG loaner pool.
At first appearance, it is a sturdy enough replica, closely matching in appearance the features (including nuts, bolts and screws) of a Tokyo Marui G36C. The ABS finish is not as nice nor as subdued as the TM, but it isn't bad. It includes the spaces on the handguards for the optional side rails.
Firing was decent, as was rate of fire. The Echo One chrono'd at between 275-305 fps on average, well below the 330-350 fps advertised by the manufacturer. The AEG was powered with a generic 1100 mah 8.4 handguard mounted mini battery. The AEG was significantly louder than its' TM counterpart, and the select lever was also much stiffer.
On the selector lever, it was stiff, and tended to vibrate out of position between semi and auto, causing a few malfunctions and fail to fire incidents.
During the first event, approximately 1000 rounds were put through the AEG without failure. It actually performed pretty well. The hop-up maintained position and the AEG was fairly accurate out to 150 feet or more once adjusted. The Echo One easily accepted TM G36C standard and hi-cap mags without failure.
Breakdown is almost identical to the TM as well, with the added difficulty of having to open up the entire body to drop the lower receiver. The folding stock mechanism receiver plate integrally locks the receiver in position, so it has to be pried out to drop the receiver and access the mech box. This was a little frustrating, as I thought I was going to crack the body in the process. Luckily, it held up.
I failed to get photos of the process, but it wasn't pretty.
The teardown occurred after the second event. The Echo One decided to start blowing fuses after my 12 year old son disappeared with it into the desert. I correctly guessed that he dropped it in the sand when quite a lot came pouring out from the opening in the folding stock base (from the mech box end) as I held it upside down.
I cleaned it, and replaced the fuse. The new fuse popped almost immediately, prompting the total teardown of the AEG. Surprisingly, the mechbox and internals were in pretty good shape. The gear box uses the typical Chinese made screw and top slide clamp system to hold the mech box together.
I decided that since this was a fairly inexpensive AEG, I would go ahead and bypass the fuse block by soldering a wire between the fuse connections. Once I did this, the Echo One performed much more reliably, without any noticeable overheating of the battery, wires, or motor.
The rate of fire did not increase dramatically, nor did the fps.
In a nutshell, for players that want the hi-tech movie look of G36 in their arsenal, the Echo One is not a bad choice for the money. It has made a decent addition to our armory, and appears to be ready once again for another event. I will report back later on how long this $135 AEG survives.
